Flexplates

Integrated on the end of an engine's crankshaft, the flexplate features a ring gear on its circumference to reliably function with the starter drive in turning the crankshaft when the ignition key is triggered. The torque converter is placed on the flexplate to efficiently provide engine power to the transmission. Made thin and lightweight, a typical flexplate is manufactured using a stamped steel disc where a ring gear is appropriately welded. It may be designed with holes drilled in the disc and a small weight may be welded to the disc to warrant stability. Machined holes are present for the flexplate-to-crankshaft bolts and torque converter mounting bolts.
