In 2002 Cadillac started manufacturing a line of mid-size luxury cars / executive cars – the CTS. Cadillac CTS was offered in three body styles: 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe, and 5-door sport wagon. The CTS was manufactured in three generations.
The first generation (2003–2007) was based on GM's new rear-wheel drive Sigma platform. Cadillac CTS was created as a replacement for the Opel-based Catera. The CTS was available with a fully independent suspension and a five-speed 5L40-E automatic or Getrag 260 manual transmission. In 2005 model an Aisin AY-6 six-speed transmission was used instead of the Getrag 260 manual transmission. In 2004 a high performance model, CTS-V, was released.
The second generation (2008–2014) came with redesigned interior and exterior. The new Cadillac CTS was provided with larger, longer size; new, bigger grille; slimmer headlights and taillights; new, nine-spoke 18-inch wheels; as well as wider high-performance brake calipers and rotors. The second generation was also available with a Bose 5.1 surround sound system, GM's Stabilitrak ESC system, a tire pressure monitoring system, a navigation system, and much more features.
The third, latest generation was launched in 2014. It features modern design and new engine option: twin turbocharged engine. The newest model, 2016 Cadillac CTS, comes with new 8-speed 8L45 automatic transmission. The third generation CTS-V (also known as Four-door Corvette) is equipped with 6.2 liter 640hp LT4 supercharged gasoline V8 engine, which makes CTS-V the most powerful Cadillac ever.
