The ultimate road-trip car, the Jeep Wrangler was launched in the mid '80s following the success of the loved yet difficult to sell Jeep CJ. Upon its arrival, drivers had the option of either a five-speed manual transmission or three-speed automatic transmission along with either a 2.5L four-cylinder engine or a 4.2L six-cylinder. With the goal to increase driver comfort for the Wrangler, Jeep introduced slightly less ground clearance and a wider track. Other changes included a wider windshield and leaf-spring suspensions with wider springs to improve handling. With each successive generation, the Wrangler provided greater reason to consider it a North American icon. By the third generation, Jeep worked on making a quieter driving experience for its consumers by increasing insulation and the standard engine for all versions was set to a 3.8L V6 engine capable of 202 horsepower.
The Wrangler's popularity shows no signs of waning as each year passes. As popular as ever, the Wrangler has been recognized many times for its class and durability. Awarded the Off-road Utility Vehicle of Texas for 2015, named by Car and Driver as an "Editor's Choice" for Compact Crossovers and SUVs in 2014 and awarded the Best Consumer Value - Compact SUV Award by Vincentric, the Wrangler continues to impress. Now, the 2016 Jeep Wrangler has raised the standards even more. Featuring a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine, the 2016 Wrangler boasts best-in-class 285 horsepower. Hill Descent Control assists help drivers control speed when moving downhill while Hill Start Assist helps drivers move up the hill by keeping the brakes in place for a short period of time after drivers remove their foot from the pedal so that it’s possible to accelerate without rollback. The Wrangler also makes no compromises when it comes to safety and security. The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) helps drivers control the car by sensing over- or under-steering and the Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM) predicts when a rollover may happen and brakes accordingly to prevent any possible accident. In short, the Wrangler is a devastating mix of style, substance and security.
