In 2003, the Japanese automaker Honda introduced a new series of compact crossover SUVs called "Element". The Honda Element was built on a new CR-V platform and featured a 101.4-inch wheelbase. The Element was available in two versions: a front-wheel and all-wheel drive. Three types of transmissions were provided as well: a 4-speed automatic, 5-speed automatic and 5-speed manual transmission.
The first Elements came with a 2.4L I4 K24A4 engine and two trim levels: the DX and EX. In 2004, Honda released another model, the LX, which was had even more features. The front seats were upgraded and optional side airbags were offered. The DX trim level would later be discontinued.
In 2007, Honda Element was upgraded with a new and more powerful K24A8 engine. New features were provided such as electronic stability control and standard side airbags. Honda also launched a new trim level named SC. It was available with a new front bumper and grille, a modified lowered suspension, new 18-inch alloy wheels, projector headlamps, and many other improvements.
In 2009, the Element came with some exterior modifications. New color combinations for the dashboard were offered as well. In 2011, Honda would decide to discontinue the Element series.
