Dodge Charger is an American automobile that was manufactured in fifth main generations. At the beginning, more than 50 years ago, Charger was introduced as a show car. Two years later, the first generation of Charger began. The first Chargers were available with a two-door fastback body design and a four bucket seat interior. In 1968, the second generation was launched. It was based on the Chrysler B platform and featured new, improved design. In order to meet the new emissions and safety requirements, Dodge presented the third generation of Charger – these vehicles were offered in six different packages with some cosmetic modifications. In 1975 Dodge decided to try moving the Charger into the expanding personal luxury car market segment. This led to the creation of the fourth generation (1975 – 1978). The fifth generation (1981 – 1987) included some economy-type vehicles that were available as a subcompact hatchback coupe with front-wheel-drive, and a five-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission.
The fifth generation has ended in 1987. But that was not the end of the Charger. Nineteen years later, in 2006, Dodge reintroduced the entirely new models of Charger. These outstanding vehicles are offered only as four-door sedans using the Chrysler LX platform and feature V6 and V8 engines, 5-speed and 8-speed automatic transmissions, as well as all wheel drive (AWD).
