In 1967 Pontiac, the performance division of the legendary automobile manufacturer General Motors (GM) introduced a new line of automobiles called "Firebird". Pontiac Firebird was built on the F-body platform and was produced in four generations.
The first generation (1967–1969) came with a distinctive Coke bottle styling. The first Firebirds featured an OHC inline-6 engine and a single-barrel carburetor. However, more engine options became available later. The second generation started in 1970. It was offered as a 2-door coupe with eight trim levels. Three types of transmission were provided - 3-speed manual, 4-speed manual and 3-speed automatic transmission. There were also a lot of engine options for this generation. The "Coke bottle" styling was replaced by a more "swoopy" body style, although some classic elements remained.
The third generation (1982–1992) came with an entirely new design for more aerodynamics. Vehicles from this generation were offered with 2-door coupe and 2-door convertible body style, as well as four types of transmission. The fourth generation was launched in 1993. This final generation comes with a variety of new features, like standard dual airbags, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, 16-inch wheels, rack-and-pinion power steering, short/long-arm front suspension, and several non-rusting composite body panels. The Firebirds from this generation are also equipped with V6 and V8 engines. Two THM and two Borg Warner transmissions are available as well.
